Early Years Education Funding information

Early Years Education Funding information

For eligible children free early years education is available 38 weeks per year. As we are a full time Nursery we spread the funding over the year. If your child starts at the beginning of the academic year (September) the entitlement equates to 11 hours per week all year around.

Free early years education funding is available for the following children:

All 3- & 4-year-olds from the term following their 3rd birthday. Every 3–4-year-old child is entitled to 15 hours universal funding, eligible working parents of 3-4 year olds are also able to access a further 15 hours of extended funding.

Eligible working parents of 2-year-olds are able to access 15 hours free early years education and childcare funding, per week, over 38 weeks, the term following their 3rd birthday.

From September 2024, eligible working parents of 9-month-old children will be able to access 15 hours free early years education and childcare funding per week, over 38 weeks.

From September 2025, eligible working parents will be able to access 30 hours free early years education and childcare funding per week, over 38 weeks.

The term dates are as follows:

  • Spring term: 1st January – 31st March
  • Summer term: 1st April – 31st August
  • Autumn term: 1st September – 31st December

Here are some examples of eligibility:

  • Your child turns 3 on 2nd February – the Free Early Years Education funding will be available from 1st April.
  • Your child turns 2 on 2nd April – the Free Early Years Education funding will be available from 1st September.
  • Your child turns 9 months old on 28th December – the Free Early Years Education funding will be available from 1st January.

The 15 hour funding has a maximum amount of hours you can claim for your child per term which is broken down as follows:

  • Autumn Term: 1st September – 31st December 14 weeks (210 hours)
  • Spring Term: 1st January – 31st March 11 weeks (165 hours)
  • Summer Term: 1st April – 31st August 13 weeks (195 hours)

As we are a full-time provider, we offer the funding spread over the full year.

If your child started in September this equates to 11.4 hours (for 15 hour funding) or 22.8 hours per week (for the 30 hour funding). If your child starts in the Spring or Summer term the hours are pro-rated for the remainder of the year, as we will be unable to claim the hours for the term/s before they start.

Any sessions booked over the funding entitlement hours will be invoiced to you and will be payable each month, in line with our terms and conditions.

The funded hours cover the cost of childcare only. Snacks, meals, consumables, extra sessions and activities are not included in the funding entitlement, which means there will be an additional charge payable each month.

We will be flexible to meet the needs of children entitled to the Early Education Funding however we will only be able to offer a limited number of funded spaces.

To claim the funded hours parents will be required to complete a parental agreement form, alongside providing their child’s birth certificate. We cannot claim the funding without this.

You can visit  www.childcarechoices.gov.uk for further information on funding options and to check your eligibility.
